All the flavors of a California Roll but in a dip! Makes for a fun appetizer and comes together quickly. Similar to a California Roll, all the ingredients are already cooked.
Ingredients for the California Roll Dip
Kewpie mayo, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Optionally you can add some sriracha to the mix as well. We tried it both ways and preferred a little spice to it, but to each their own!
Imitation crab. You should be able to find some in the refrigerated seafood section at any grocery store. I used flake style for this and chopped it up, you could also use leg style (where it’s rolled into logs).
Cucumber, avocado, and green onions. All the usual suspects found in a California Roll.
Nori and cucumber matchsticks. For serving. I cut the nori sheets into 1/6ths to make a serving vessel. I thought chips made from wonton wrappers would be a great option too! Or even potato or tortilla chips.
Method
Step 1: Mix the mayo, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sriracha (if using) together to make the sauce.
Step 2: Chop up the crab, about 1/2 cup of the cucumber, green onions, and the avocado. Mix well by tossing into the sauce.
Step 3: Serve the dip in the center of a platter with 2”x3” sized nori sheets on one side and cucumber matchsticks on the other. Use the nori as a vessel (almost like a taco), add a cucumber matchstick and spoon some dip on top.
Variations
Different protein. You could swap shrimp or smoked salmon for the crab to switch it up.
Gluten free. Switch out the soy sauce for coconut aminos or tamari, taste to see if it’s salty enough for you.
