5 ingredients to a delicious tzatziki sauce that can be used as a dip for pita chips and fresh veggies or a topping for a variety of dishes!
Tip: I always use Fage brand yogurt because it is extra thick and I don’t have to strain it.
WHAT IS TZATZIKI?
Tzatziki is a Greek yogurt and cucumber dip. It’s made by using thickened or strained Greek yogurt and mixing in salted cucumbers, lemon juice, and garlic. Some versions mix in fresh dill and/or mint.
You can enjoy it as a dipping sauce, think of it as a healthier ranch dip. I like to dip fresh veggies, pita chips, or pita bread into it. Tzatziki can also use it as a condiment on gyros, chicken shawarma wraps (recipe coming soon!), dolloped onto salmon, scrambled eggs, or roasted potatoes.
HOW TO MAKE TZATZIKI
STEP 1: Using a cheese grater, grate up a couple mini cucumbers. Then mix in some salt to get their excess moisture out. Set these aside while you make the rest of the dip.
STEP 2: Add the yogurt to a medium sized bowl. Squeeze the lemon directly into the yogurt and add your minced garlic, give it a good stir.
STEP 3: Squeeze the excess moisture out of the cucumber and discard the cucumber water that comes out. Add the cucumber to the yogurt mix, stir!
STEP 4: Let it rest in the fridge for at least 15min so the flavors mingle. Enjoy!
The sauce will last for at least a week (usually longer) if kept in an airtight container in the fridge.
