If farmers feed the world, who feeds the farmer??
Oh hi, it’s me Anjouli (pronounced: on-Julie). A city girl turned farmer’s wife in the middle of somewhere Iowa. My husband and I live on a farm with our two little boys, 3 blue heelers, a couple cats, and a whole lot of pigs! By day I work in the healthcare industry and by night I’m always cooking.
Living on a farm means I have access to the freshest ingredients during the growing season! But it also means, I live in an area where take-out options are limited. Over the years I’ve played around in the kitchen to try to recreate some of the city indulgences I crave and I’d say I’m pretty good at it now (if you don’t believe me, you can ask my farmers!).
Harvesttime means, all hands on deck and while I still don’t know how to drive a tractor, I help out by bringing meals out to the field so they don’t have to stop. This past harvest I started to share some of the dishes I was bringing out to them on Snapchat. The response was WILD. Many friends and family members were asking for recipes or wanting me to teach them to cook. So I decided to start Farmers’ Supper Club to showcase some of the things I’ve been up to in the kitchen.
My dad first started to teach me some of the basics of cooking as a little kid. It had always been a creative outlet for him and we were truly spoiled to have him as our personal chef every night. It took moving out on my own to realize how good we had it and that sparked even more of a longing to learn how to make good meals. After moving across the country and eventually landing on this farm, I started to experiment even more in the kitchen. Fortunately for me, my husband and his family will try just about anything! My field meals may be far from traditional but it sure does keep it interesting.
I hope this space will inspire you to try new recipes and give you a glimpse into the wonderful world of modern day agriculture, and those of us who live it everyday. Wish me luck as I navigate the world of food blogging!
